Rubbish Removal
Skip Bin vs Rubbish Removal: Which Is Better in Adelaide?
By North-Eastern Property Solutions ·
It’s the first question most people ask when the garage is overflowing or the renovation is finished: do I hire a skip, or get someone to take it all away? Both work. The right answer depends on how much time you have and who’s doing the lifting.
How a skip bin works
You book a bin, wait for it to be dropped off, fill it yourself, then wait for it to be collected. If it has to sit on the road or footpath, you may need a permit from your council. Skips are priced by size and hire period, and there are rules about what can go in them — overfilling or the wrong materials can mean extra charges.
A skip makes sense when:
- You’re doing a long project and will add rubbish over several days or weeks
- You have the time and the help to do all the loading
- There’s room on your property for the bin
How a rubbish removal service works
You send the job details, get a price, and a team turns up at the agreed time, loads everything — from the backyard, the shed, upstairs, wherever — and takes it away the same visit.
Rubbish removal makes sense when:
- You want it gone today, not over a week
- You don’t want to (or can’t) do heavy lifting
- The rubbish is somewhere a skip can’t reach — a narrow side path, a unit balcony, inside the house
- You don’t have space for a bin, or don’t want one blocking the driveway
Cost: it’s closer than you think
A skip looks cheap until you add the hours of loading, the trips back and forth with a wheelbarrow, and the risk of extra fees for the wrong materials. With a removal service, you only pay for what’s actually taken, and the labour is included. For a typical garage, shed or backyard clean up, the difference is often smaller than people expect — and you get your weekend back.
Recycling
Most skips are tipped as mixed waste. When we load by hand, we sort as we go so green waste, scrap metal and cardboard can be recycled rather than sent to landfill.
The short version
If you’re doing a big renovation over a month, a skip can work well. For almost everything else — garage clean-outs, garden clean ups, furniture and end-of-lease leftovers — a rubbish removal service is quicker, easier and done in one visit.
