Elizabeth is in the City of Playford, where hard rubbish is handled by NAWMA (Northern Adelaide Waste Management Authority). Residents get two free hard waste services a financial year through NAWMA — an at-call kerbside collection of up to 2 cubic metres (often a 4–6 week wait), or a voucher for one 6x4 trailer load at a NAWMA Resource Recovery Centre. The council service won’t take green waste, building materials, tyres or hazardous waste, and every item has to be liftable by two people.

It’s worth using if your load is small and you’re happy to wait. Book us instead when it needs to be gone this week, when it’s more than the council limit, or when it’s the kind of rubbish council collections won’t touch — garden waste, renovation debris or a full clean-out.

Tips and drop-off sites near Elizabeth

If you’d rather take a load yourself, the nearest public drop-off sites for Elizabeth residents are NAWMA Resource Recovery Centre, Edinburgh North (Bellchambers Road) and NAWMA Resource Recovery Centre, Pooraka (Research Road). Large amounts of garden waste can be taken to a NAWMA Resource Recovery Centre, where fees apply. For the things we can’t take — old paint, household chemicals and gas bottles — NAWMA’s Edinburgh North Resource Recovery Centre and the Campbelltown Works Depot on Newton Road both take household chemicals, gas bottles and liquid paint free under the Green Industries SA and Paintback schemes. And remember South Australia’s rules: TVs, computers and whitegoods are banned from landfill, and eligible bottles and cans are worth 10c each at a container deposit depot.
